FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KorTerra Announces Web Based Mapping TechnologiesMinneapolis, MN – November 13th, 2006 – KorTerra announced today the release of KorWeb v4.0, which includes many powerful web based mapping technologies. The web based mapping capabilities will allow for utilities and municipalities to display their facility maps (e.g. gas, electric and telephone lines) in an Internet browser based environment. Combining KorTerra’s mapping technology along with their KorWeb One Call Ticket Management software will provide huge safety and productivity benefits to the damage prevention industry.
The primary safety benefit results from being able to view an excavator’s dig site on a street map along with the utility’s underground facilities. Many times a locate ticket will have a single street address assigned to the dig site, which can falsely give the impression the dig site is located exclusively at the one address, when in fact the excavator’s dig site could actually be the entire city block. KorTerra’s ability to display the dig site on a map will promote safety by correctly depicting the excavator’s actual dig site. A locate ticket which previously may not have been located by a utility since it appears to be far from the utility’s underground facilities, will now be correctly located.
Productivity will also increase as the utility or municipality will be able to display their facility maps and street data along with the excavator’s dig site. A utility or municipality who may have sent a locating crew to a work site where no underground facilities existed will now be able to determine this in the office before sending a crew to the job site. This allows the locating crews to focus their time and energy on providing higher quality service by working fewer locate tickets in the field.
KorTerra is very excited about the new uses for our mapping technology and how it can assist in promoting safety and productivity in the Utility Damage Prevention arena,” said Jeff Law, KorTerra Product Manager. “Our mapping technology combined with the KorWeb One Call Ticket Management software can save lives, improve productivity and increase the overall quality of the locating performed in the field.”
“In the coming months, KorTerra will be making available a number of other mapping technologies which will benefit organizations across the board,” said Chris Stendal, President of KorTerra. “We are excited about the new uses and benefits web based mapping will provide to our clients.”About KorTerra, Inc.
