Automated Positive Response

KorTerra offers Automated Positive Response in both our KorWeb and KorTerra Enterprise systems.  Automated Positive Response is used immediately after a facility has been located to send a confirmation notice that a locate ticket was successfully marked or cleared.  Some states mandate confirmation is sent back to the One Call Center, while some companies opt to send confirmation to the excavator that originated the locate ticket request.  This confirmation is called Positive Response.

When completed manually, Positive Response can be time consuming and sometimes unreliable.  If a dispatcher processed one hundred tickets a day and spent just three minutes sending a Positive Response for each locate ticket, they would end up wasting five hours every day on Positive Response alone!  It is also very difficult to manually track and prove a Positive Response was received or even sent at all.

KorTerra’s Automated Positive Response makes sending locate confirmation effortless by automatically sending a Positive Response to the excavator or One Call Center.  The excavator receives a copy of the completed locate ticket information, so there is absolutely nothing to do on the locator’s part - the message is automatically sent for them.  When sending Positive Response to a One Call Center, a drop down menu of predefined, valid One Call responses is provided on the locate ticket completion screen.  The appropriate response is selected and the locate ticket is completed as normal.  Positive Response is automatically sent and tracked from that point on.  KorTerra has the ability to send Positive Response to multiple destinations at once, and because the application is flexible and highly configurable, it can be adapted to many different situations, increasing the success rate of the confirmations sent.

Email, fax or automated phone calls are used to send an Automated Positive Response message to the homeowner or excavator.  The success or failure of a message is also tracked by the Automated Positive Response program.  If a failure were to happen on the receiving end, the failure is logged and a new response method can be performed, depending on your selected response program.  All of this information is logged in the KorTerra system and can be easily audited should there ever be a question of Positive Response’s status or existence.

Aside from legal purposes, Automated Positive Response is a quick and easy way to build good public relations with the excavation community.  By responding in a timely manner with your company’s name in the Positive Response, the excavator knows you are attentive to their needs.  A quick Positive Response also helps protect your facilities by letting the excavator know right away if and where they are able to dig.  While it is not required by law in every state, many companies choose to practice Positive Response as a courtesy to the excavator and in doing so protect their underground assets at the same time.
