Member Service Area Mapping

Working with multiple member GIS departments, each with different mapping formats and daily updates, can be frustrating and time consuming for One Call Centers.  Map maintenance can easily take more time than it should if the right technology is not in place.  KorTerra has partnered with Progressive Partnering to create a web-based map management system that specifically addresses those issues called Member Service Area Mapping. 

Member Service Area Mapping (MSAM) is an all inclusive tool for both One Call Centers and their members to manage their notification areas.  It is designed specifically for One Call Centers to increase map management efficiency, while at the same time work as an edit and request tool for all of their members.  The program is easily accessible to all One Call Center employees and their members because it is available through the internet.  

One Call Center Use and Benefits
Paper maps are no longer needed with MSAM!  MSAM allows a One Call Center to electronically manage their members’ dispatch codes in a single, easy to use mapping format.  The program receives member service area edits that are submitted online by the member.  The edits are reviewed by the One Call Center through a change management process which they control before the member’s maps are updated.  Edit requests are accepted or denied by the One Call Center and the system then sends an automated message back to the member with the One Call Center’s decision.  Additional comments or information can be sent in the response by the member or One Call Center.  This technology greatly expedites the annual member service area map review process because it is no longer required to print and mail a physical map and manually process the member’s requested changes.  Updates are also more likely to happen throughout the year since the electronic map tool makes it easy for members to quickly perform an update.  Either the One Call Center or KorTerra can host the application, depending on the One Call Center’s preference.  Overall, enormous process efficiencies are gained, saving time and money.  

Member Use and Benefits
The Member Service Area Mapping system has several features that make editing and tracking maps much easier.  MSAM has full security in place to only allow the designated staff of the member utility to submit and request changes to their current dispatch code.  The update process is easily performed with the online MSAM application instead of printing a map, drawing the changes and mailing in the request.  The system also records the full history of the member’s requested service area changes for future reference.  Manual errors are greatly reduced with electronic map changes.
