Web Analytics Play Vital Role in Gopher State One Call’s New Website

Minneapolis, MN – June 15th, 2010 – Since launching Gopher State One Call’s new website in May of this year (www.gopherstateonecall.org), KorTerra has been closely monitoring the visitor traffic through their web analytics tools.  Creating and hosting the Gopher State One Call site was only part of the package offered by KorTerra.  Gopher State One Call also opted to utilize KorTerra’s website monitoring services, allowing them to examine and modify their site based on visitor behavior.

Utilizing website analytics is similar to having the teacher’s study guide in class, you already know the answers to all of the test questions!  Questions such as “Who is visiting my site?” and “What do my site visitors find important?” are answered by analyzing your site’s actual behavior, instead of making uneducated guesses.  This allows you to understand who is visiting your site, what they are looking for, and make changes based on the information you have collected.

Here are a few examples of the information that is included in the web analytics reports provided by KorTerra:

Visitor Segmentation: this is a list of all the organizations that have visited your site.  It distinguishes who they are and which city and country they are from.

Visitor Behavior: track which pages visitors clicked on, how many total pages they visited, how long they stayed on each page, what content they downloaded from each page, how long they were on your site total, and the average time spent on your site.  The total number of visitors, the total number of actions (page clicks) and average number of actions are also provided.  For example, your site might have had 1,500 total visitors in the month of June, clicking on a total number of 5,000 pages.  This means each visitor, on average, viewed 3.33 pages on your website. 

Top Search Terms: this lists which key words people are typing in search engines to access your site.  The type of search engine they are using is also provided (Google, Yahoo, etc.)

Traffic Sources: this shows all of the different ways people access your website, and how many people used each type.

Pages Visited:  view the pages visited, starting with the most hits to the least hits.  Each page visited also shows the percentage of total page visits the particular page accounted for and whether that number increased or decreased from the specified prior time period.
