KorPartners and South Dakota One Call Provide New “Safe Digging” Services
Minneapolis, MN – November 1st, 2010 – South Dakota One Call, an agency of the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission, is dedicated to making our communities and state a safe place to work and live. This organization is in charge or receiving and communicating excavation information to prevent damage to South Dakota’s underground utilities. South Dakota One Call is pleased to announce KorPartners as their new One Call Center operations partner. KorPartners is a newly-founded sister company of the damage prevention and One Call technical services expert KorTerra. KorPartners recently began providing call center operation and support services for South Dakota One Call, beginning on August 30, 2010.
According to South Dakota law, before an excavation project occurs (such as planting a tree or putting in a fence) the excavator is required to contact South Dakota One Call. South Dakota excavators and homeowners can dial 1-800-781-7474 or 811 (in-state) to provide their dig information to South Dakota One Call, and now have an additional electronic submission option through the internet. Once the dig project specifications have been provided, any utility company with underground facilities in the area is notified by the One Call Center. It is then the facility operator’s responsibility to mark underground facilities present in the dig area. Once the dig area has been inspected and marked, excavators and homeowners can dig safely.
The purpose of the “call before you dig” process is two-fold:
1. Protect excavators, homeowners, and the general public from harm due to accidental contact with underground facilities.
2. Protect the underground facility infrastructure from damage, the associated costs of repair, and the inconvenience of service outages.
Several new online services are available to South Dakota homeowners and excavators to aid in communication with South Dakota One Call, including new ways to submit dig information to the call center and review the results of dig requests. South Dakota One Call members are now offered an online service to receive tickets automatically from the call center, eliminating the need for paper or fax tickets.
All of these free services can be found online at www.korterra.com/sdoc , along with registration, demo and training options. South Dakota excavators, homeowners and members are encouraged to utilize these time-saving web applications provided by South Dakota One Call to aid them in their safe digging efforts!
